Excerpt from March 25, 2007 Sunday Sermon

Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.  But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.  But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.  Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.  But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.  But continue thou in the things which tour hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; and that from a child thou hast know the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

1 Timothy   3:8-15

One of our youth came to me recently and asked, “Bro JR, what do you think about the TV program Charmed?  They do good things on the program.”  I said, “Well, let’s talk about what the Bible says about it.  Let’s look at some scripture.”  I asked him this question, “Where do you think witchcraft comes from?” “From the devil,” he said. So I ask him, “If witchcraft comes from the devil, can it be good?”  “No, not really,” he said.

I appreciate our youth for asking questions.  We need to be open and honest with them. It gives them the opportunity to think things through for themselves.  They need to know anything from the enemy can never be good.

Several years ago, we watched a program called Bewitched.  “Ah!  She’s so cute with that little twitch to her nose,” we said.  Some think the same about that weird little boy with the glasses, Harry Potter.  The question is “Is there such a thing as harmless sin, and is there such a thing as a harmless lie?”  No; sin is sin no matter how you look at it, and a lie is a lie no matter how white we try to make it.

Youth today get so excited about witchcraft.  There are those who dress in darkness -- all black clothes, black nail polish, black make-up, dyed hair of multicolor and long black coats.

Parents, grandparents, don’t you let your kids dress like that.  I don’t care if Sylvia Brown does call it, “White magic from God.”   It is wrong and it does not come from God.  It is from the old devil himself, and he is dragging our youth down to the very pits of hell.

There is power from the dark side.  It is not a cute little fairy tale!  To dabble in witchcraft opens the door to a deeper and darker side.  Parents, do not sacrifice your children to false gods, not just literally, but spiritually.  Know what they are watching on television and movies.  Listen to their music and find out what latest craze they are involved in.  To let kids grow-up on their own is to fail them.  You have been given the responsibility to raise your children in the ways of God.  If a child has anything in your house that promotes evil and darkness---burn it.  That means no more Demons and Dragons, and no more Ouija boards.   Parents, I would rather be too strict than not strict enough. It is better for them to be upset with you, than for them to become involved in things that will lead them down the road of destruction.

There are people involved in Yoga.  “There you go preacher, last week you preached on my Country music, now my yoga.  Where are you going next?”    You know what Yoga does for you?  It clears the mind and allows the forces of evil to come in.  New Age, anything goes.

I like to believe there is nothing that can cross the Bloodline.  Demons are all around us, but my God is greater.   Some say, “Preacher, you are so stern!”  As a pastor, I feel I am not stern enough.  However, the Lord is working on that.  So, get ready!
